Review

Mr. Wetta is an amazing storyteller. He took what I thought was rather dark subject matter and wove a tender and uplifting coming of age story.
Jack Witcher is the youngest son of the local hillbilly pariah, and the younger brother of the town's low achieving bully. Despite being a sensitive and highly intelligent boy, he is judged (and accordingly taunted and also made into an outcast) based on who his family is. His loyalties are tested when he falls for Myra Joyner, the daughter of a respectable family, whose older brother is hated by Jack's older brother. When Myra's brother mysteriously disappears, and all fingers point at Jack's brother, will Jack side with his family, or with the town?
This book was thoroughly engaging and enjoyable from start to finish.
